“On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.”  Does this sound familiar?  Following the Boy Scout motto, Troop 315 in Olathe is serving KidsTLC!  This week, scouts and parents brought a favorite scout activity to KidsTLC this month, a Pinewood Derby.  Troop 315 generously provided wooden cars for our kids to decorate, each putting their own individual touch on what they hoped to be the winning car. Next, scouts and parents turned our rec room into a racing experience complete with popcorn and pit crew.  As the kids all filed in and sat quietly around the track, the scouts carefully lined up each race eagerly announcing each car’s designer.  The room was full of cheers for every car, their own and their peers.  On your mark, get set, go!!  Heat after heat, the room remained filled with cheers of excitement and the smell of popcorn. At the end, proudly received a participant ribbon and the winners were announced… the smile on the 1st place winner’s face filled the WHOLE ROOM!  Thanks to Troop 315 scouts and parents, our kids enjoyed the time honored tradition of Pinewood Derby – while practicing our motto of “Learn and practice self-control, self-respect and respect for others”
