Listed below is a brief description of each of our internship programs
Masters level Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF)
- KidsTLC’s Phoenix Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) is designed to serve children (6-18) who are in JJA or SRS custody or private placement and need intensive/collaborative clinical, psychiatric and medical services. Children that are placed in KidsTLC’s PRTF demonstrate a need for careful assessment, close monitoring and more extensive treatment than can be provided on an outpatient, community basis. These children have typically experienced multiple “failed” placements, which may include their own home, school, foster care, detention, hospitalization and other residential placements. While community mental health centers in the state of Kansas try every possible avenue to treat children in their community or county of origin, this is not always possible. Therefore, KidsTLC’s PRTF serves children from both local agencies and from counties all over the state of Kansas.
- Recreation Therapy / Therapeutic Recreation internships are available at KidsTLC in our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and in our Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) working with children under 18 years of age. Internships are offered each semester, with more spaces available during the summer. Programming and facilitation opportunities cover a wide range of recreation and expressive therapies with interactive involvement on clinical teams. These internships are fast-paced, creative and interactive, with connection and relationship development as the foundation for therapeutic play. They provide a well-rounded opportunity for a employment experience as a Recreation Therapist in a behavioral health setting.
