What do a 1200 pound animal and KidsTLC have in common? They are both helping kids find courage and success! Last week, 12 kids got up a little earlier, ate breakfast a little quicker and piled into vans every morning to head out to New Horizons Ranch (http://www.newhorizonranch.info/) in Rantoul, KS. Our kids attended a week long Summer Day Camp, complete with grooming, saddling and riding. For some it was their first time being near a horse, never mind getting a chance to ride. Along with basic horse care and interaction, the kids had numerous opportunities to face their own challenges and struggles in the welcoming arms of ranch staff and on the strong back on these gentle giants. One activity called Before Camp and After Camp kids were asked “What will you take away from this week?” One young man said, “ I need to lead and make better choices and not follow just because others are doing something.” Then another girl responded with, “We just need to work harder to get along and show love to each other.” Pretty simple but powerful discoveries while sitting on a hay bale. At the end of the week both staff and kids wiped away tears of joy, as both knew the long term impact their time together would have! We are so grateful for generous monetary donations that make these and other life changing experiences possible for our kids.
