Remember your first college campus, remember the people, remember the books, the vast possibilities and the freedom! For our kids, that dream is not always a reality but for one day last week 9 kids got a taste of it. Thanks to KU Edwards Campus Staff, our kids got to experience a university campus! The day included browsing and setting up a window display in the bookstore – complete with a dog wearing sunglasses. Students for the day enjoyed learning math and science can be fun with a Mobius strip, popsicle stick chain and an indoor cloud. They worked together on The Marshmallow Challenge – the same activity challenge given to local CEO’s. We also learned about the history of basketball (yes, James A. Naismith and a peach basket). The day ended with kite making at the Confucius Institute. More importantly, the day ended with our kids feeling a sense of promise and optimism toward their futures – “I could climb these steps”, “ I could walk these halls”, and “I could maybe even receive that diploma” – one girl even went so far as to ask for and pick up an admissions packet to the School of Psychology Undergraduate Program, quite a takeaway from a KidsTLC Summer Activity!
