Ciao! Buongiorno! Learning a little Italian and making “pizzas” were all part of our Taste of Italy Volunteer Night this month. Thanks to some wonderful volunteers and a generous donation of felt scraps, it was a time to try both our imaginary culinary skills and explore a new language. Pizza making isn’t complete without rolling out the dough (toilet paper tubes make a great rolling pin) and selecting just the right toppings. A few kids even chose anchovies and pineapple! Some kids meticulously placed each topping, sometimes even making their pizza slice by slice. Others just piled it on! Each pizza as unique as it’s chef. Volunteers and kids enjoyed exchanging Italian phrases and trying to figure out some common food words. Our regular volunteer nights are an opportunity for individuals to share their time and compassion with our kids. It is also a chance for our kids to get creative and just have fun! What’s your favorite pizza topping?
