While working with the children and families on KidsTLC’s campus each day, sometimes there are perspectives that begin to change or gain new meaning. For me, one of those is the concept of the “giving season,” which is now upon us.
For most, the idea of the “giving season” revolves around gifts for family and friends, volunteering time for those who are less fortunate, or even giving our own money or resources to help those in need. When I am out and about on campus and look around at the children and families we serve, I can’t help but think of this giving season a little differently…
I think of the families of the children on our campus, and how they bravely GIVE a piece of their heart as they entrust us with the care and treatment of their precious children.
I think of my recent conversation with a mother about what she would have GIVEN to know sooner to seek help for her daughter struggling with severe depression, had she noticed the signs.
I think about how our KidsTLC staff GIVE of their time, energy and often their emotions to provide the absolute best care for children as they help them build trust and understand that they are worthy of love.
I think about the children at KidsTLC that dig deep and somehow find the courage and resilience to GIVE the hard work and effort necessary to learn new skills, develop relationships and heal from past trauma.
I think of the child going to sleep on our campus this evening, who does not have a family and would GIVE anything to know who will be caring for them when their stay at KidsTLC is over.
So, this is what I ask of YOU…give. As you consider making an end of year donation to KidsTLC, please understand that your gift is doing more than providing seasonal joy for children on our campus. Your gift is a very real voice, telling a child that they are loved and worthy. Your gift reminds a parent that this is hard, but the right thing to be doing for their child. Your gift shows a child that there is a community outside of KidsTLC that cares about them and believes in their potential. Your gift allows us to a be loving family for children who will call KidsTLC “home” for the holidays.
We are grateful for your consideration and that you are a part of KidsTLC’s healing community. On behalf of all of the children, families and staff at KidsTLC, we send our warmest wishes to you and yours.
Sincerely,
Dr. Erin Dugan
