Funding will bolster availability of mental and behavioral health services for children and their families.

Olathe, Kansas, January 25, 2024 – KidsTLC, a local nonprofit providing mental and behavioral health services, today announced a $750,000 grant from the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation. The grant will support the agency’s expansion of their psychiatric residential treatment facility (PRTF) to serve more children seeking hope for a safer, more healthy future. The Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation visited KidsTLC as a stop on their Giving Tour, an initiative to discover change-making nonprofit organizations in all 50 states.

The grant is a crucial component in KidsTLC’s recent expansion as part of the Rooted in Hope capital campaign. In 2020, the agency purchased a neighboring skilled-nursing facility to increase the residential capacity and nearly double the size of its campus. The pressing demand for more PRTF beds continues to be a significant issue in the state of Kansas, with approximately 100 children waiting to receive care. Many of these children have experienced complex trauma in the form of abuse, neglect, or severe family disruption. The grant from the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation marks a turning point in the campaign as the agency finalizes renovations on the newly acquired property and prepares to open the new space to children in need of a safe, secure healing environment.

“Children can thrive when they have access to compassionate mental and behavioral health care,” said Alex Cohen, President of the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation. “We are proud to support KidsTLC as they work to provide hope for children and their families and foster mental well-being.”

Grateful for this generous gift, KidsTLC is headed into the final phase of the campaign and anticipates reaching its goal of raising $15.5 million by the end of 2024. Additional campaign projects include parking lot improvements, renovations to an existing residential building, and a new roof on the Trellis Center at KidsTLC which provides daily ABA autism services.
