What do you get when you mix cornstarch and water? Non-Newtonian Fluid and FUN! Earlier this month Bayer’s “Making Science Make Sense” brought an amazing, fun, educational program to KidsTLC. Our kids learned a little about the products Bayer produces and A LOT about the science behind two very common household items, water & cornstarch. At first glance it was a bowl of white liquid – pretty simple – but then kids discovered they could punch it, stretch it, ball it up and even walk on it. Bayer’s “Making Science Make Sense” filled our playground with squeals of surprise, amazement and total sensory joy. We watched as some of our older kids were, at first, too cool but then in the end were the last ones out of the pool. In case walking on liquid wasn’t enough for one afternoon, kids also got to try “alka rockets” – launching Alka-Seltzer tablets across the playground. Not a bad day in an outdoor classroom, learning to trust, explore, wonder and discover!
