Volunteer with the shelter youth

  • Participate in required pre-service and on-going training
  • Be familiar with the Family Teaching Model System used in the shelters
  • Be a mature responsible role model
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Be aware of personal boundary issues
  • Maintain clear channels of communication with TLC personnel

Interested in mentoring youth??
Interested in making a difference??
At-risk youth in YOUR community ages 12-17 are in need of positive adult role models.

Special Projects

  • Meal Preparation
  • Craft activities
  • Routine maintenance
  • Special outings
  • Once-a-month deep cleaning (stove, refrigerator, cupboards, etc.)

Individual suggestions based on your interests are always welcome!

Minimum Qualifications

  • Be at least of 21 years of age
  • Have at least a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Pass KBI background check
  • Volunteers must pass a health assessment and TB test
  • If transporting youth, volunteers must have the following:
    • A valid Missouri or Kansas Driver's license
    • A car that passed state inspection guidelines
    • Have and maintain a good driving record
    • Have and maintain a minimum level of auto insurance
    • First aid kit in their vehicle
