TLC Resource Family Services
If you are interested in more information about becoming a resource parent, click here. We're here to answer your questions about becoming a resource parent, and to encourage your interest in doing so! Is there really a need for additional families to provide foster care in my community? There is a huge need for resource families who are willing to consider fostering older children/youth with more challenging needs and behaviors or several children (brothers and sisters) who need to be placed together in one home. There is also a continuing need for families where one parent is home during the day to care for children of all ages on a short-term emergency basis. What are the requirements to become a resource parent? Resource parents need to be over 21, have a stable income, must like kids and agree to use non-physical discipline. Background checks are required along with verification of the potential resource parents good health. Their home (whether an apartment, duplex or a house) needs to be clean and safe for children. A member of the TLC Resource Family Services staff will visit the home to help ensure that it meets State licensing requirements. Many people think about becoming resource parents for a long time before they actually do so - and that's good, because this is a big decision and takes a great amount of commitment. Yet, the folks who do become resource parents usually get so much out of it that they continue to be resource parents for many years! Please contact TLC's Resource Family Recruiter Matt Humphrey, at (913) 324-3624 or e-mail mhumphrey@kidstlc.org for additional information. |
