I can
see the finish line!
The finish line
is in sight! TLC's comprehensive capital campaign has raised $8.4
million toward our $9.6 million goal. Construction of our new
facilities will begin within the next 30 days. We are
aggressively moving forward to meet our $550,000 Kresge Foundation
challenge grant by the end of the year which will complete our
campaign!
TLC received
notification on July 1st that we were awarded $200,000 in Kansas Tax
Credits from the Kansas Department of Commerce. A significant
part of the effort to finish the campaign includes offering Kansas
Tax Credits to new donors to the campaign.
New campaign
donors may receive a tax credit or refund against their Kansas tax
liability in the amount of 50% of their donation to TLC. In
addition, donors may also claim a federal tax deduction for their
contribution.
Please help us
complete our Bringing Our Children Home capital campaign
and at the same time realize a significant tax savings. Click here
to learn more about the benefits of Kansas Tax Credits.
Thank you,

Bob Drummond,

CHANGING LIVES...
TLC's Annual

A highlight of
the evening was a heartwarming speech given by a former TLC
resident, Kathy Smith. Kathy was a troubled teen who came to
TLC to seek help. She is now a working professional in the community
and her and her husband have adopted three children of their
own. She expressed to the crowd that TLC was a turning point
in her life that helped her to improve the relationship she had with
her family and get on the right track.
Three staff members were also honored for their
daily contributions to TLC:
- Ann Doyle was given the “Harmony
Award”
- Donetta Shaner was given the “Outstanding
Performance Award”
- Stephanie Brotherton was given the

TLC's Annual Dinner succeeded in honoring those
who are a part of TLC's success in serving local children and
families!
Shaping the Future through Estate Planning...
Use your IRA as never before
On August 17,
2006, President Bush signed into law the Pension Protection Act of
2006 which permits a tax-free rollover from an Individual Retirement
Account (IRA) to charity. Under the law, individuals who are 70½ or
older can make gifts from their IRA to charitable organizations like
TLC until December 31, 2007 without undesirable tax effects.
Under the new
law, IRA gifts can be accomplished simply and without tax
complications. Plus, you can make the gift now – while you are
living and able to witness the benefits of your generosity. Click
here to learn more about how you can help secure TLC's
future through a gift from your IRA or request a copy of our
brochure How to Make Charitable Gifts from Your IRA by

SHINING STARS...
Recognizing Special
Volunteers
|
Burns & McDonnell lends a
hand to TLC
100 volunteers from Burns & McDonnell, an engineering and
consulting firm based in Kansas City, joined residents of TLC's
girls' shelter home on August 26th to do some much-needed renovating
and updating of the home. Burns & McDonnell volunteers worked
hard prior to the event by soliciting donations for the project from
several area businesses including Ace Hardware, American Top Soil,
Green Expectations Landscaping, Home Depot, Lowe's, Sherwin
Williams, Target, Tile and Stone Warehouse and Dynamic Porch and
Patio. Volunteers were able to replace tile throughout the entire
home, install new lighting fixtures, ceiling fans and sliding glass
doors. However the project didn't stop there! Vanities were replaced
in each bathroom, the bedrooms were painted, new curtains were hung,
new mattresses and bed spreads were donated and improvements were
made to the homes' electric and plumbing systems. We cannot thank
these volunteers enough for all of their hard work! Many teens in
need will have a nice place to call home thanks to Burns &
McDonnell!
