President's Update... |
Johnson County
Young Matrons (JCYM) created a vision and developed a mission to
address the needs in the County in the 1970's. TLC's acquisition of
KEYS continues to expand the intentions of our founders. As KEYS
becomes a part of TLC we will be able to effectively serve more
children, youth and families. As KEYS and TLC become one, the
original vision of JCYM to serve an underserved population of youth
will be further enhanced.
The creation of
therapeutic foster care and transitional living facilities are among
two of the services that we are studying as we acquire KEYS. These
are incredibly exciting times at TLC. The commitment, passion, and
motivation to serve our community has never been higher, but as
always we know that any strides that are made in the quality of life
of our children only happens in partnership with you!
Thank you for
your continued support!
Warmest personal
regards,
Bob Drummond ,

CHANGING LIVES...
TLC
Merges with KEYS Youth Services
The Board of
Directors of both TLC and KEYS has approved TLC acquiring the assets
of KEYS. The underlying purpose of the TLC acquisition of KEYS
will be to further the mission of both organizations, serve more
children and youth in underserved areas, create administrative
efficiencies (particularly through technology), and combine the
strengths of two highly effective organizations.
The specific
goals of the acquisition includes the following:
- To create a continuum of care for children, youth and
families ranging from foster care through residential treatment in
Johnson County.
- To take advantage of efficiencies gained through an
economy of scale made possible with a larger organization.
- To provide more residential treatment beds for
underserved populations (Level 5).
- To create an overall stronger agency with higher
visibility, increase the ability to attract more private
government funds and to have a greater influence on public
policy.
- To provide transitional living beds in Johnson
County.
- To provide more foster care opportunities in Johnson
County.
- To strengthen TLC's Board with the addition of
several excellent KEYS Board members.
- To provide an opportunity for all Level 5 Johnson
County youth to attend the therapeutic alternative school
currently being built on TLC's campus.
- To strengthen all staff through increased training
opportunities and increased use of technology.
- To enhance the funding opportunities of the new
organization by combining donor bases.
During
this time of transition, we trust that TLC can count on the same
level of dedication and involvement you have given to TLC and/or
KEYS over the years. We are confident that this merger will
enable us to reach our ultimate goal...to help as many children in
need as our resources will allow.

Recognizing Special
Volunteers

KC
Cares is an organization that focuses on providing flexible
volunteer opportunities for busy professionals who may otherwise not
be able to find time to give back to the community. Linda
Sonnenmoser is a member of this organization and this is her first
time volunteering for TLC. With the help of Harper Fabric in
Overland Park, Linda and others were able to sew 59 curtain panels
to cover windows in TLC's shelter. Harper Fabric donated their
facility, as well as sewing machines, supplies and the fabric to
make this activity possible Linda says it is such a good
feeling to be able to get out and do something in the
community. She wants the youth in TLC's shelter to know that
somebody cares enough about them to give them something nice for
their home.
