This
month we would like to recognize the Manchester Park Community
Service Club. This group of energetic students and parents put
a lot of hard work into the creation of Fall Fun Boxes! These
shoe boxes were decorated with an Autumn and Halloween theme and
then were filled with toys and treats for the children to
enjoy. These Fall Fun Boxes were delivered to TLC's foster
children at the Fall Party for foster families and each child who
attended was able to take this special gift home with them! We
would like to extend our gratitude to Stacey Gardner and her
children Matt Gardner, Rachael Gardner and Kate Gardner for all of
their hard work. Also a special thank you to Tyler Day and all
the other children and parents who helped make this project
possible!

Special Event Spotlight...
Ninth Annual United for Kids Gala is over the TOP!
Gala Honorary
Chairs, Tom and Mary Martha Carrico
,
Committee
Co-chairs, Valerie Howard Burke and
Michelle
Hardeman Gressel and TLC Special Events Coordinator
Linda Rumsey teamed up to produce a magical evening
on October 14. Thanks to their hard work and the participation of
many dedicated volunteers and supporters, the United for Kids Gala
raised a record breaking
$180,000!
Over 650 TLC
supporters and friends filled the Overland Park Sheraton
ballroom. This year's theme was “Triumph Over Adversity”
and featured Linda Armstrong Kelly , mother
of
World Champion Lance Armstrong . Linda shared her
personal story as told in her recent book, No
Mountain High
Enough, Raising Lance, Raising Me. Joining in the
evening's festivities were Gala Champion of
Children Sponsors, Fred & Lou Hartwig and six
of
the Founders of TLC , members of Johnson County
Young Matrons. Presenting Sponsors attending were Peg
Nickloy , ACH Foam Technology and
Shred-It .
Ryan
LeFebvre , voice of the Kansas City Royals, served as
Master of Ceremonies and shared his very touching personal TLC
experience--Valentine's Day with girls in TLC's Shelter Home. Ryan
is featured on
the outstanding
NEW TLC video unveiled at the Gala.
A fantastic
silent auction was offered throughout the evening. During the live
auction, Gil Rumsey , auctioneer and long-time TLC
supporter, showcased high-interest items donated by
Congressman Dennis and Stephane Moore
, Linda Armstrong Kelly and Lance
plus several others. Guests were very generous in pledging
their support for the final live auction item: funds toward securing
a safe night of shelter and services for at-risk kids. The proceeds
from The United for Kids Gala will truly help TLC's children and
youth “Triumph over Adversity”!
