President's Update...

Small Things with Great Love

Mother Teresa once said, “A few of us can do great things but all of us can do small things with great love.” As I review the efforts of the hundreds of volunteers, paid staff, government entities, and sister agencies we partner with, this year has already been highly productive. The statistics and more importantly the stories are revealing the successes of all of our efforts together as we address the mushrooming needs in our County.

As I reflect on the efforts made this year, “small things done with great love” accomplish most of our work with children and youth. TLC will provide services to over 8,000 children this year and I can say that it will be the “small things done with great love” that will impact these kids.

This year will be a benchmark year in TLC's history because on June 1st we “broke ground” for our 32,000 square feet of new buildings. The TLC Board is making a bold statement as we prepare to address the needs of the next generation of Johnson County children and youth.

The new buildings are necessary but it will still be the “small things done with great love” that will change the lives of our children and youth. Thank you for your continued support!

Warmest personal regards,

Bob Drummond, Ed.D

President and CEO

CHANGING LIVES...

TLC Breaks Ground for Campus Development Project

A Groundbreaking Ceremony was held on June 1st on TLC's campus marking a significant milestone in thier Bringing our Children Home capital campaign. The groundbreaking event was attended by over 150 individuals including elected officials, donors, campaign cabinet members, board members, and several of the agency's original founders.

The event officially marked the start of the construction phase which will begin in July. The project includes the construction of a new Residential Treatment Center and Apartments, the expansion and renovation of existing shelter facilities, and the expansion of the Mabee Family Center.

Campaign Co-Chairs Jon Stewart and Barbara Allen, TLC President and CEO Bob Drummond, and Campaign Honorary Co-Chairs Peggy and Terry Dunn

Community members gathered at TLC's campus for the groundbreaking

The $9.6 million Bringing Our Children Home capital campaign represents the largest and most comprehensive campaign in TLC's history. To date, over $8.15 million in campaign commitments have been made thanks to the generosity of foundations, corporations, and individuals. Shaping the Future through Estate Planning...

Charitable Gift Annuities – The Gift that Gives Back

Perhaps you are like our friends who prefer to support TLC's programs through tax-wise gifts and who want to receive more fixed income during this low-interest rate environment. If so, now may be the ideal time to explore the many benefits of our gift annuity program.

A charitable gift annuity is part charitable gift and part annuity. At the time you fund your gift annuity, we agree to pay you and/or another beneficiary a percentage of the gift amount over your designated beneficiary's lifetime.

Charitable gift annuities have become popular because they offer the opportunity to make a meaningful gift that might not otherwise be possible. The minimum gift requirement is quite modest. Typically, donors are able to increase their fixed income, save taxes up front and, at the same time, support a charitable cause like TLC.

Click here to learn more about charitable gift annuities. We can provide you with no obligation illustrations that spell out your expected tax and financial benefits so that you can see exactly how a gift annuity might work in your particular situation. To receive a copy of our brochure The Charitable Gift Annuity – A Gift that Gives Back , please e-mail Tim Keeton at giftplanning@kidstlc.org.

SHINING STARS...

Recognizing Special Volunteers

TLC would like to thank the National Honor Society of Blue Valley High School for volunteering to coordinate a food, clothing and gift card drive to benefit TLC. This group of students worked extremely hard and were able to donate over $1,000 in food, brand new clothing and gift cards to the children and youth served by TLC. We are always delighted to see local teenagers giving back to the community in a positive way! Thank you!
