Dear Friends,
TLC is a member
of a bi-state consortium called Light of Hope. Our mission is to
raise awareness of child abuse and neglect with the intent to
eliminate it. Our consortium is bringing Pulitzer Prize nominated
author Dave Pelzer to Kansas City. This evening with Dave Pelzer
will be held on April 18th at 7:30 p.m. at the Ararat Shrine Temple,
5100 Ararat Drive in Kansas City, MO. Dave has written six books
including A Child called IT and The Lost Boy.
These books share details of the horrific abuse he suffered as a
child.
Pelzer will tell
his story and sign books after his presentation on April 18th.
Carolyn Long, anchor with KCTV 5 News, will be mistress of
ceremonies.
Individual
tickets are $40 each with corporate sponsorships available. Tickets
can be purchased from TLC or online at http://www.lightofhope.info/.

Changing Lives...
TLC completes capital
campaign!
TLC for Children
and Families has successfully completed the largest capital campaign
in its 35 year history. Thanks to the involvement of many, the
Bringing Our Children Home capital campaign raised over
$10.6 million for capital, endowment and program expansion purposes
on TLC's campus.
The campaign was
marked by several significant milestones including meeting the
requirements of the $1.1 million Mabee Foundation and $550,000
Kresge Foundation challenge grants. These challenge grants, combined
with the generous gifts and commitments of local foundations,
corporations, and individuals contributed to a highly successful
fundraising initiative that will benefit children and families
throughout our community for years to come.
Construction of
the expanded Mabee Family Center and the new residential treatment
center and apartments is already underway. The first phase of
construction should be complete in mid-June with the addition of
expanded training and office space in the Mabee Family Center.
The residential
treatment center and apartments are scheduled for completion in
January 2008. The expansion and renovation of our two existing
shelter homes for adolescents will be completed by early summer
2008. All of these changes will ultimately allow us to increase our
bed capacity from our existing 30 beds to 92 beds. Click here

completion.
TLC Campus Construction in
progress!
Without a doubt,
the success of this campaign would not have occurred without the
commitment of our Board of Directors, members of the Campaign
Cabinet and a host of others who contributed to the campaign. Time
and time again, throughout the campaign, we were reminded of how
blessed TLC is to have such a team of committed individuals
dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children and
youth. TLC would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to all
those who provided support throughout the campaign!
As we see all
the changes that are happening at TLC, we look forward to bringing
hope and healing to another generation of children and families.
Shaping the Future through Estate Planning...
The Gift You Leave Behind
Did
you know the most popular planned gift is the simple charitable
bequest? Of all the gifts you will ever make, a bequest (a gift
you designate in your will or living trust) may be the most
meaningful one.
Bequests are
popular because they provide the opportunity to leave a lasting
legacy. Through a bequest, you can remember loved ones in special
ways, perpetuate your values and help shape the future of
organizations such as TLC.
Whether your
bequest is large or modest, good planning can magnify its effect.
It's exciting to think of the significant impact you can make
through a charitable bequest! Click

a bequest.
SHINING STARS...
Recognizing Special
Volunteers
That is just
what students at Blue Valley Northwest High School did at their
recent school dance. Led by Senior Class President, Anna Smith,
students decided to forego purchasing corsages and boutonnieres and
opted instead to sell glow bracelets and donate the proceeds to
charity. For a month prior to the dance, they worked hard promoting
the fundraiser by making announcements and setting up a booth during
their lunch period. The students chose TLC as their recipient
charity for the money they raised and were able to present TLC with
over $1,300! Although it is sometimes hard for young people to see
the first hand impact they make on TLC youth, we hope they know
their support will enable us to help many children and families in
need. Thank you!
