Dear Friends,
April is
National Child Abuse Prevention month. While every month should
focus on preventing child abuse, April is the national month where
agencies collaborate to address this critical issue.
This year TLC is
partnering with metro-wide agencies in a bi-state consortium called
Light of Hope. We hope our efforts will raise awareness of child
abuse and neglect with the intent to eliminate it.
This event will
feature Pulitzer Prize nominated author Dave Pelzer who will tell
his story and sign books on April 18th at 7:30 p.m. at the Ararat
Shrine Temple in Kansas City, Missouri. Dave has written six books
including A Child called IT and The Lost Boy.
These books share details of the horrific abuse he suffered as
a child.
Individual
tickets are available for $40 each. Corporate sponsorships are also
available. Tickets can be purchased from TLC or online at http://www.lightofhope.info/.
Please click here
to view a brochure that provides additional information. If you
are interested in a corporate sponsorship please feel free to
contact me.
Child abuse is a
very serious issue in our community and around the nation. With your
help we can reduce child abuse and neglect in our community!
Warmest
personal regards,

TLC kicks off Annual Fund

TLC For the Children
volunteers, staff, board members and dignitaries all gathered
together on Friday March 9th at Carrabba's Italian Grill.
Attendees came together to celebrate the start of the 2007
For the Children annual fund campaign.
With the arrival of spring, TLC supporters are prepared to begin
another successful year that they hope will mirror the success of
2006.

introduced dignitaries in attendance; Senator Karin Brownlee,
Prairie Village Mayor Ron Shaffer, Olathe Mayor Mike Copeland,
Olathe Council member Kathleen Huttmann, Olathe Police Chief Janet
Thiessen, Johnson County Commission Chair Annabeth Surbaugh and
Johnson County Commissioner Doug Wood.
Mayor Copeland, Johnson County Chair Surbaugh and Chief
Thiessen spoke of the issues in Johnson County and the need to raise
money to fund the crucial services TLC provides through its seven
programs.
Much of these funds come from the help of the
For the Children annual fund committee,
led by co-chairs Harlan Parker and Dan Stalp as well as seven other
team captains and nearly 60 team members. Parker and Stalp shared
with the crowd the importance of the campaign and their plans to
raise $135,000 for TLC this year. Many of the teams plan to
hold events to raise thier team goal while others will fundaraise in
the community.

SHINING STARS...
Recognizing Special
Volunteers
Wednesday, March 14th turned out to be a rather warm and
sunny day for early spring…perfect weather for moving! Eight
volunteers from the UPS in Lenexa came to TLC with a pick up truck
and dressed to do some heavy lifting! As construction and renovation
is well underway on TLC's campus, we were faced with the task of
moving an entire office full of files, supplies and other office
items. UPS generously offered to assist us with this task. Thanks to
their time and hard work, our offices are empty and ready for new
carpet and paint!

Volunteers hard at work!

THANK
YOU UPS!!
Lowe's makes a special donation to
TLC
Lowe's Home Improvement Store on 135th and Blackbob in Olathe
were kind enough to recently donate and deliver a wooden play set to
one of TLC's Resource (Foster) Families. Store manager David
Steveson said he thought of TLC when given the opportunity to donate
the play set.
TLC Resource parents, Clint and Debbie Dominick
said that the donation was incredible. They were so thankful
to the men from Lowe's who delivered and set up the play set in
thier backyard. They felt that it was such a blessing for
their family to receive the donation!

and dressers are often needed by resource families so that they may
accept more children in their home. Other donations include work out
equipment, bicycles or tickets to Royals' games or musical
events.
Please contact
